- Write the work up neatly, check through it, and proofread it (also when possible, have someone else proofread the text). Remove any double spaces by using the “find and replace” function. Having a “nippupäivä” (mock defence) organised provides an excellent way to get an outside opinion on the content of the thesis before the actual preliminary examination.
- Contact the SibA doctoral education services specialist and go through the finalising stages with them. Send them your transcript, which they will run through the Turnitin plagiarism detection system.
- After receiving the Turnitin certificate, the specialist will submit your manuscript to language check and to the pre-check.
- Make the corrections required after the preliminary examination (after discussing with your supervisor).
- After this, the written component will be printed.
- Send the requested number of printed written components to be read or reviewed.
- Most written components and all the abstracts must be submitted to the library in electronic form. Check that the text is in the correct format for doing this, and send it in the format(s) requested.
- Be aware of the time limits specified for the examination of the written component, and note that preliminary examinations, reading, or even checking does not happen outside the teaching year.
Your contact person during the latter stages of submitting your thesis are found in the Tutti doctoral education support team (siba.tutti@uniarts.fi): keep them up to date at every stage of the process. For more detailed instructions on how to finalise and publish the written component, please refer to the sections Steps for Completing Your Degree and Finalisation and Completion and Publication of a Written Work in the Doctoral Guide.
