Introduction
The purpose of this guide is to set out and clarify the concept of writing a written component for an artistic doctoral degree at SibA, and to provide authors with answers to the following questions:
This guide is not so much a set of strict instructions to be followed, as an outline of what can (and cannot) be done within the framework of your written component – which may come in many different forms. Any instructions here that are more detailed, cover the general or formal requirements for any written component – such as the way in which other works are referred to.
Other issues touched on in this guide cover the preparatory course, text seminars, and postgraduate seminar meetings. The main responsibility for writing the written component lies with individual doctoral candidates, as their supervisor is there to guide and help them.
The main idea here is to provide you with one basic model for structuring a written component. It is not saying that there is only one specific shape it must take, but it enumerates all the aspects that a written component for an artistic doctoral degree should include, whatever its final form. The written component can take the form of an article-based or a monograph-style thesis. This guide has been developed to help you prepare the latter, i.e. the monograph-style written component.
