Uniarts Helsinki has a visitor agreement to make it possible for persons in visiting positions to carry out activities at our university without a part-time or full-time employment relationship with the university. Typical visitor tasks include visiting researcher, visiting artist, visiting professor or grant-funded researcher, among others. Persons who have signed a visitor agreement cannot simultaneously have an employment relationship with Uniarts Helsinki or work in projects that receive external funding.
A person appointed as a visiting professor must fulfill the eligibility criteria for professors as indicated in the university’s administrative code. A person working as a professor in another university may also be appointed as a visiting professor.
As a general rule, the post of a visiting professor is part-time and fixed-term. The visiting professor may be paid commission and / or compensation for their expenses, depending on what has been agreed upon with the research unit.
Grant-funded researchers can sign a visitor agreement with the university and thereby get access to the resources offered by the university. The agreement is also signed if the grant is paid via Uniarts Helsinki.
In some cases, the grant resources may include travel allowances granted at Uniarts Helsinki. In these cases, it is possible for Uniarts Helsinki to pay for trips of the person who has received the grant, but it is up for the grant recipient to look into taxation matters, because the payment of expenses may be taxable income. Each case is examined individually.
In the visitor agreement, the university defines the resources available to the visitor, which include phone and data connections, access rights to facilities, postal and office supplies, research data and other resources. The agreement also deals with the use of a work space in the university’s facilities and the duration of the visiting. In principle, Uniarts Helsinki does not designate a personal work station.
In accordance with the agreement, the visitor undertakes to engage in cooperation with the university, comply with the established code of conduct in science and art and keep secret any confidential data that they gain. The visitor is responsible for their own insurance and pension coverage. The visiting researcher is not employed by the University of the Arts Helsinki.
The validity of the agreement is two years at most, after which the grounds for signing a new agreement will be re-examined.
The visitor’s contact person is the head of the specific unit of the university or a person appointed by the head of the unit. The contact person is responsible for monitoring the resources made available to the visitor and introduces the visitor to the practices of the university.
