All postgraduate students of the DocMus Doctoral School are expected to write texts related to their postgraduate studies, i.e. their artistic work, as well as the topic of the artistic thesis or the dissertation. Writing articles is included in studies and is agreed on with the supervisor. The articles may be published journals of the relevant field in Finland or abroad.
N.B. If a dissertation (Resesarch Study Programme) consists of published articles (i.e. article-based dissertation), they must be published or approved for publication in refereed scientific publication series, prior to being brought together in the dissertation and presented for inspection. The publication conventions of these articles depend on the publisher, and the student is encouraged to carefully observe the instructions for writers given by each journal / publication series.
The status assigned to scientific/scholarly journals can be found on the Publication Forum website of the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV).
The Doctoral School of the Department of Classical Music at Sibelius Academy has its own publication forum for articles, the journal Trio. It is a biannually published book containing articles, comments, and current news.
The editorial staff of Trio reviews the manuscripts submitted to the journal. Articles are reviewed using so-called double blind peer review where two peer reviewers from outside the editorial staff review the article anonymously. Trio is classified as a level 1 journal by the Evaluation Panel of TSV’s Publication Forum, so it fulfils the conditions of a peer-reviewed scientific publication channel.
Submitting a text to Trio is done by sending the manuscript to the Secretary of the Publishing Committee: ulla.pohjannoro(at)uniarts.fi.
Instructions for writers can be found at the Trio web page.
